Developing Young Workforce - Primary & Early Years - June 2026- 2027

DYW School Improvement Plan Template – In this section, you will see a template for early years and primary settings, which can be adapted and incorporated into your School Improvement Plan (SIP) as appropriate.

Education and Employers Primary Schools – Inspiring The Future Programme 2026-27 – Primary Head Teachers highlighted in the feedback to the DYW Baseline Audit in June 2025 that what was required was further support to develop and improve the following;

  • Developing productive relationships/events/activities with business partners
  • Career talks/career inspiration activities delivered to year groups

Specifically, the feedback from Head Teachers asked for support to

  • Develop links with employers & partners – including potential for a bank of online materials
In response to this we are developing a partnership with the Education and Employers charity to support primary schools in Aberdeenshire to use Primary Futures to help raise children’s aspirations, motivation and attitudes to learning through activities with volunteers from the world of work. More detailed information on this exciting project will be issued soon.

Local DYW Priorities (Aberdeenshire HT Survey 2025)
Other areas identified as a priority for support were:
  • Increase awareness of meta-skills frameworks and the Career Education Standard
  • Share approaches linking play-based pedagogy with meta-skills
  • Promote SDS professional learning and My World of Work (including profiling)
  • Strengthen employer and partner engagement, including access to online resources
