Aberdeenshire Council’s DYW team took ownership of delivering Foundation Apprenticeships during academic session 2019 / 2020 as a response to low update across the local authority. Since then, the volume has grown to such an extent that the numbers who can study an FA during an academic session is restricted due to a cap in the delivery contract.

During the first year of delivery, courses were on offer at SCQF Level 6 only. In the 2021/2022 academic session, the first SCQF Level 4 and Level 5 Foundation Apprenticeships were introduced. In the 2024/2025 academic session, the total interest in FAs has exceeded our contractual capacity.
