The Foundation Apprenticeship (FA) in Hospitality is for pupils staying on at school. You can choose this FA as one of your subjects in S3, S4, S5 or S6.

- A keen interest in the Hospitality industry
- Good level of written/spoken English
- Committed and flexible
- Able to work with others
- Ability to problem solve
- Previous Home Economics experience in school (desirable)
Qualifications Gained
- A Skills for Work award (SfW) in Hospitality at SCQF Level 4 or SCQF level 5
- A Work Based Challenge Skills unit at SCQF Level 4 or SCQF Level 5
Provider's viewpoint
The FA Hospitality pupils visited Trinity Hall to experience how high quality hospitality establishments deliver products and services to their discerning clients. They practised piping skills, decorating and eating delicious cupcakes! A great day was had by all!

During this course you will learn…
You will develop skills and knowledge through completion of a Skills for Work (SfW) National Subject in Hospitality as well as working closely with an employer.
You will also participate in visits and work placements with local Hospitality organisations to enhance and apply in school learning.
Level 4 – You will learn about and complete units in the following areas:
- Working in the Hospitality industry
- Working in the professional kitchen
- Working Front of House
- Introduction to events
- Work based challenge
Level 5 – You will learn about and complete units in the following areas:
- Developing skills for Working in Hospitality
- Developing skills for working in the professional kitchen
- Front of house operations
- Events
The sector offers a wide range of careers and jobs available to anyone with the right attitude including:
- Chefs
- Housekeepers
- Hotel and catering managers
- Bar staff
- Food service staff
- Baristas
Hospitality is an exciting and flexible industry offering a wealth of career opportunities in hotels, restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars and many other venues across Scotland.

Aberdeenshire Council Delivery
This course may be delivered by Aberdeenshire Council Specialist FA Trainers or in conjunction with a local external provider.

Your Foundation Apprenticeship will also help you to develop core skills valued by employers, particularly:
- Communication
- Problem solving
- Working with others
- Time management
These transferable skills are necessary and highly desirable for working in a range of other related jobs.

Be committed to learning new things and completing your work within a given timescale
